The Teenage Democrats of Maryland
The Teenage Democrats of Maryland is a statewide networking group for
Democratic teens interested in the many aspects of politics. Our main
objective is to create a coalition of politically aware youths throughout the
state of Maryland and give them opportunities to participate in the democratic
political process.
Our main goal is to raise awareness of the importance of politics in our
younger age group. Politics is an important aspect of our lives that impact us
in various ways in our daily lives. Even though we do not seem to notice it,
we should at least have a say within that process.
In 2006 midterm elections, we campaigned for numerous politicians running
for office including Chris Van Hollen for Congress, Ben Cardin for Senate,
OMalley-Brown for Maryland, and many others in the local level. Now in the exciting 2008 Presidential race, we will be offering opportunities for students to volunteer for the various campaigns, and will fully support the Democratic nominee for President. Since the
roots of this group began in Montgomery County, we are currently trying to
outreach to all high schools throughout Montgomery County and gradually spread
out to other counties in Maryland, so that every teen in our state will have
the opportunities to campaign, attend events, and get involved in politics at
the state and local level.
As an organization, we are providing information, meetings, parties, and
caucuses to let everyone know how to get involved with the numerous events
planned. Since the group is aimed at teens in high school, events are planned
to hopefully accommodate each and every one of us, so generally, most events
will be held on the weekends.
The most exciting events to come are the statewide conferences, debates, and
lectures we will be hosting available to anyone in TeenDemsofMD. We are
planning large events at conference centers and hotels, where we will invite
local politicians to speak, and hopefully include the Maryland Teenage
Republicans in statewide debates.
TeenDemsofMD was established in March 2006, and the group is growing
everyday, so we hope to reach out to all democratic teens throughout the state
in the near future.
